Challenge: Is there a product/market fit?

HILDA is a tablet application that combines music, images and its users memories. Senior tablet users can take a tailored musical journey to the days of their youth. The application is not only entertaining and fun to use, but also designed to actually enhance the memory and cognition of its senior end users.

To date, HILDA has only been sold to Finnish professional users, such as assisted living facilities and neurological rehabilitation providers. As this segment offers a relatively narrow customer base, the founders of HILDA are looking for new growth opportunities from the consumer market. The planned release date for the consumer application is in April.

However, this is only where the work begins. HILDA team needs to quickly discover ideal customer segments willing to pay premium on the application. HILDA needs cost effective ways to create awareness, acquire freemium users and convert them to paying customers. To ultimately claim a product/market fit, HILDA team needs to demonstrate that its able to acquire customers with costs not exceeding the customer lifetime value.

500€ cash reward for the best plan

The case competition is about creating the optimal plan for market validation of HILDA.

Ideally, the Hilda team should be able to execute the plan in just a few weeks. The plan can include for example creative use of advertising platforms and growth hacking techniques, or partnerships models with larger organizations. The results should be enough to convince the co-founders and external investors to make their next commitment to the product.

The Hilda co-founders will evaluate your plan based on three R’s: Is it

  • relevant (Is it creating new knowledge on product/market fit),
  • realistic (can it be executed given the constraints?), and
  • result-oriented (can it deliver measurable proof on product/market fit?)

Winning team delivering the best plan will be rewarded with 500€ cash reward.

The case competition begins with a briefing session at Haaga-Helia StartUp School in Pasila Campus, room 1001 on Friday April 6th at 16:00. The competition plans are submitted on Saturday April 7th at 15:00. After the market validation plans are presented by the competing teams, the winners are announced no later than 18.00.

Do register early, as a maximum of five teams will be accepted to the competition. A teams can have 2-5 members. Competition is open for all, but teams consisting of Haaga-Helia and Helsinki Business College students have precedence over other teams.

The event is organized in co-operation with Helsinki Entrepreneurship Society and Haaga-Helia Startup School. The HILDA market validation project is supported by Tekes Innovation Voucher.
